The Mayor of Montreal, Mr. Gérald Tremblay, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Bike System Company, Mr. Roger Plamondon, are proud to announce that the BIXI family is growing even larger. The cities of Washington (District of Columbia) and Arlington (Virginia) on the American eastern seaboard, along with the Washington State University campus, on the country’s west coast, have decided to adopt the public bike system that was first revealed in Montreal a little more than a year ago. Starting this fall, 1,100 new BIXI bikes will be found at one of the 114 stations along the Arlington-Washington corridor. Another 30 bikes will be made available for students at Washington State University.

Spring has sprung. The sun’s come out. And BIXI is back for a second season.

Our installation teams have been very efficient. Helped by the pleasant spring weather, they’ve managed to set up stations faster than we hoped. Which means BIXIclists will be able use their beloved BIXI system even earlier than expected. Starting Tuesday at 7 am, BIXI bikes will be deployed and ready to roll on the streets of Montreal.

We expect that 246 stations will be up and running by April 20. Users can follow the installation of their favourite stations at our Website.

New for this year, BIXI bikes will be available at Parc Jean-Drapeau.

The entire BIXI team wishes you a great cycling season.

The BIXI community keeps expanding by leaps and bounds. First, it was North America, with Montreal, Boston and now Minneapolis. Shortly thereafter, Europe followed suit with stations all over London. And now, BIXI goes to the Land Down Under as Melbourne is the next city to adopt the concept.

Thanks to the determination and boldness of the managers behind BIXI, the Public Bike System Company earned Gold in the Canadian Public Sector Leadership Awards. During a gala reception in Toronto last night, Roger Plamondon, chair of the board of the company, received the prestigious award in the Not-for-profit category.

This morning, Roger Plamondon, chair of the board of the Public Bike System Company, and Alain Ayotte, the company’s president, were pleased to announce that the one millionth BIXI bike trip has been made. The two men were accompanied by Gérald Tremblay, mayor of Montréal, and André Lavallée, chair of the City of Montréal’s executive committee and member responsible for the transportation plan, as well as the user who reached this important milestone in the young company’s history.
